Kokusai Budoin has an unquestionable history and forms one of the most valuable martial arts links for the west. The Kokusai Budoin President, Yasuhisa Tokugawa, is the great grandson of the 15th and final Tokugawa Shogun who ruled in the Edo Period which was named after the city of Edo and known today as Tokyo. The Tokugawa’s ruled from 1603 to 1863 until the time of the Meiji Restoration.

Kokusai Budoin was officially founded in January, 1952 by Masters Kyuzo Mifune, Kazuo Ito, Shizuya Sato, Hakudo Nakayama, Hiromasa Tokano, Hironori Otsuka, Kiyotaka Wake and Sueo Kiyoura. The first Chairman was Prince Tsunenori Kaya, uncle of Emperor Hirohito, and was followed by Prince Higashikuni, the only member of the Japanese Imperial Family to have held this post.
